Are you hooked on your smartphone or do you know someone who is?

The rise of smartphones has changed our lives. We can utilize an infinite number of applications and tools with these small and convenient devices that fit into our pockets everywhere.

Everywhere I go, I see someone looking down at their smartphone. When I am with my family or friends, someone is looking down at their smartphone. We should use them if they help us in a positive and productive manner. There’s no doubt about that. However, I believe that society needs to take a moment and think about how much time, energy, and focus we are spending on these devices because a lot of us are addicted.

The smartphone is like a souped up mini computer and television. Many of its applications and features are designed to rely and use it as much as possible.

Here are some quick strategies to help you conquer, prevent, and clean up your overuse of it:

The Display (How your smartphone appears and look like):

  • Minimize attractive colours that make it addicting
  • Change your default view to greyscale
  • Use a blue light filter

The Space (The stuff on it):

  • Remove digital clutter and get rid of apps and settings that you don’t need
  • Minimize the action going on within the home screens

The Notifications (the instant and automatic pop-ups):

  • Go through and uncheck unimportant automatic notifications

The Entertainment (the endless content we are able to consume on it):

  • make it less “user friendly”
  • disable autoplay
  • turn off endless scroll

Cool Support Tools:

  • f.lux (blue light filter)
  • Moment (tracks your smartphone usage)

You can free up a lot of valuable time and energy and find extra clarity by spending less time charmed by your smartphone.

Let’s spend more time on the fundamentals and more energy on what really matters to us.

Cheers.
