Gen+Ki is a wellness project with the mission to help and empower any digital and smartphone user in reclaiming their time, energy, and attention.
My name is Ed and I started this site because I wanted to share a simple and positive message about living an energetic and heroic life: be GENKI 🙂
What does GENKI mean?
Gen: source, foundation å…ƒ
Ki: energy, life force æ°—
When you put these words together, you create Genki 元気. Genki is a common word and phrase used in Japanese that means energetic, lively, and vibrant. People who are genki are those full of life and living in the present. Where does the source of your energy come from?
I believe that our world could become a better place if we could develop and live with this sort of energy and mindset. I think we would have more people in a better mood and more people with the capacity to be nicer to one another!
The Story
I noticed that people around me (myself included) were starting to feel more and more tired and distracted. We weren’t getting enough sleep, we were online until late, and we habitually pulled out our smartphones whenever we felt bored. I didn’t have a good feeling about these habits. I had a sense that it affected my personal relationships because I felt that I was less connected, and the constant superficial distractions and notifications just tired me out. As a result, I believe that the well-being of many has suffered because of this digital addiction.

I noticed that a lot of my family and friends' behaviours around me changed as everyone because reliant on their digital devices. It was a challenge in getting anybody's full attention because they always looked, tired, checking and looking at their smart phones.
As amazing as the technology was that I had in my hands, I felt I needed to further bolster my inner strength and lock down on how I controlled my time, energy, and attention. I believe that these devices can improve life in a positive way and work well as tools and facilitators. But they can be a big distractor. I had to find a way to become a master of my own devices and technology in order to feel good, maintain my energy, and live with it in a mindful, effective, and optimal way.
I call time, energy, and attention TEA. There is no perfect recipe or formula but I believe filling up and taking control of your TEA is key to our well-being.
Through this website, I hope to share ideas and stories from my experience to help others get away from their digital addiction and be able to refocus their time and energies to maintaining their well-being and what matters most. Most importantly, I hope that I can contribute to helping you become a bit more genki.
Here's to a genki life! 🙂
